The 13th - 14th Century Church

Around the basic chancelGlossary Term and naveGlossary Term additions gradually accumulated. From the C13, longer chancels provided additional room for the clergy, while side aisles to naveGlossary Term and chancelGlossary Term gave more space for a growing population, and allowed for subsidiary chapels. Towers to hold bells were built from c.1300 onwards, most commonly sited west of the naveGlossary Term.
