The Swedish Seamen's Church, 1883-4, is a fancifully picturesqueGlossary Term early work by W.D. Caröe. He obtained the commission through his father, then Danish Consul in Liverpool. Red brick, roughly square in plan, but rising to a higher octagonal centre under a pyramid roof. Scandinavian features include stepped gables and the concave-sided lead-covered timber spireGlossary Term over the entrance.
