The 13th - 14th Century Church

chancelGlossary Term [1] and naveGlossary Term [2] additions gradually accumulated. From the C13, longer chancels provided additional room for the clergy, while side aisles to naveGlossary Term [3] and chancelGlossary Term [4] gave more space for a growing population, and allowed for subsidiary chapels. Towers to hold bells were built from c.1300 onwards, most commonly sited west of the naveGlossary Term [5].
