About Looking at Buildings

Trail:

Who we are

The Pevsner Architectural Guides (now published by Yale University Press) were begun in 1951 by the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902-83) with the aim of providing an up-to-date portable guide to the most significant buildings in every part of the country, suitable for both general reader and specialist. The success of the volumes covering The Buildings of England led to the extension of the series to Ireland, Scotland and Wales. A continuing programme of new editions keeps the series up-to-date with new information on older buildings and recent architecture. For more on the series visit http://www.pevsner.co.uk

The Pevsner Books Trust is a charity (reg. no. 1042101) which raises funds for research for the new editions of the Pevsner Architectural Guides and promotes the study and conservation of buildings. The Trust can benefit from Gift Aid and the Revenue will add 28p to every £1 contributed in this way. For a Gift Aid form or to find out more about the Trust contact: the Secretary to the BBT at 47 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP or email: pevsner(at)yaleup.co.uk

The Looking at Buildings website was launched in 2001 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Pevsner Architectural Guides. The site was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Buildings Books Trust with the aim of developing new audiences for understanding and enjoying the built environment. In 2008 the site was comprehensively redesigned and relaunched.

qedStudio (http://www.qedstudio.com) was appointed as the web agency for the 2008 redevelopment and ongoing management of the Looking at Buildings website.  qedStudio specialises in accessible and intelligent web design and content management for the cultural heritage, higher education and not-for-profit sectors.
